He waits until he sees the whites of your eyes. Lucky for me I set the cruise control on this road. It was wide open and it would be easy to do 90 mph, but there was almost no traffic and I figured the chances of getting owned where high, LOL.

This is a demonstration of my Beltronics Vector 940i. Purchased this many many years ago on eBay for 0, there are so many more advance ones out there. This brand is one of the best brand for this price range, the other ones like Cobra have a lot of fancy features but they do not detect radar as well. In this demonstration, the Vector is detecting photo radar vehicle. You may not have this type of photo radar in your area so you may not aware. The radar is pointing the other direction, it will only detect your speed and take picture after you pass it by about 15-20 feet. When the detector detects it, it will warn you with KA band and even though it's only about 150 feet away or so(measured by google map), you still have sufficient time to slow down. When you are going down the opposite direction, because the radar is pointing at you, the detection will be earlier at around 1400 feet(measured by google map). The POP detection is when an officer who operate the radar gun, even detect longer range. There aren't many laser detection in our city because there are shortage of policeman so I rarely see it but I have seen the Vector 940 detected it and it will give you a 1km (3200 feet) away warning.

This is a neat video, catches two troopers running at a known speed trap and catching one car that had flown by me well after my V1 started alerting. Recorded with an HTC Thunderbolt cell phone, not in HD though (oops!). My car is a 2009 Jetta TDI and the V1 is a three year old 3.863 with sensitive Ka enabled.

That's really what you call it. I think it's actually the Chilonzor autovoksal (or however you spell it) but nobody calls it that. Anna and I sort of hid while Mavjuda negotiated a good price in our absence. We ended up in a car with a man from Samarkand who kind of looked like a middle-aged Jerry Lewis and an Uzbek woman with a Kyrgyz passport (I assume she is an Uzbek who was living in Kyrgyzstan but now lives in Uzbekistan, due to the weird borders, but if she elaborated on this, I didn't notice. I just know she kept repeating where her passport was from. The long drive through the Uzbek countryside was really interesting. It's cotton harvesting time, and cotton is Uzbekistan's primary industry. So, there were a lot of people harvesting the fields by hand, and lots of people meandering across the highway from one field to the other... which was sort of problematic since our car had a radar detector and I think our driver was going 160 km/hr-- there was a lot of people and donkey cart dodging involved, but no one got hurt. Protecting oneself from rear laser shots has always been extremely hard to do consistently and effectively requiring a combination of Veil, a passive laser countermeasure, coupled with active laser jammers. In this video we demonstrate just how hard it really is to do well, even with two proven products working together in unison. Given that the Stalker LZ1 is one of the hardest police lidar guns to "jam," I consider this an absolute worst case scenario (particularly with large very-reflective metallic silver surfaces like the rear-end of my BMW 5 series) and a huge challenge for us to overcome. This video demonstrates that more work has to be done to achieve solid protection from rear police lidar targeting. In this instance another passive anti-laser countermeasure, such as OnTrack's LaserShield would likely help as this target vehicle had no such license-plate cover installed and further improvement to the active laser jamming would also certainly help.

Drivers new to radar detectors should be aware that these devices, despite claims by some, do not allow you to speed with impunity. Experienced drivers already know this. But be advised if you give into a false-sense of security with radar detectors or even other devices like laser jammers or passives like Veil, you may be setting yourself for a big disappointment down the road and it would be the fault of your equipment. Some of the most vulnerable times occur when you are the only one or one of a very few number of cars on the road. It is at these times that even the most sensitive radar detectors (like the Beltronics STi-R and Escort Passport 9500ci) wouldn't necessarily provide and advanced alert. Why? Simple. Because there is no vehicle close-enough ahead of you that may be being targeted, meaning your detector won't go off, because there is no radar to see. It is during these times, that you need to develop and perfect your skills at predicting spots that favor the traffic patrol officer. Often times if you are very attentive and develop your situational awareness, you can see the speed trap before you are actually targeted. In this particular encounter, it took me several passes to ultimately identify the location of the very very tricky and well-hidden patrol vehicle. What is cool is if you look close you can see the light in the HUD of his laser gun light up every-time he shots a car. Also at the end the Escort Redline finally alerted what fail !!! My V1 is so awesome now it is detecting laser like radar, LOL. Also that cop had a great speed trap, probably catches a lot of people. During our Speed Trap Hunting San Francisco, we came across another vehicle with a horribly mounted Cobra radar detector on the windshield. Over the years we have seen this type of thing repeatedly by owners of Cobra radar detectors, suggesting many Cobra owners do not have a clue how to properly use a radar detector. This may be the most egregious mount we have ever seen, though. Windshield mount radar detectors should be mounted horizontally facing forward and NOT pointed skyward. Radar detectors receive police radar and laser, not radio stations or satellites. By mounting a radar detector at such an extreme angle, owners will adversely reduce radar detection range and all but eliminate any possibility of getting alerts to police laser.

Also the beeping you hear in the beginning is my radar detector.

None of them ended up stopping the car taking the video (don't know if that's because they could not catch up or because they never pursued). Car passes the first trooper @ 0:23 and the other one @ 1:03, but the last one didn't wasn't clocking speed. Car in video is a 2007 BMW 328i coupe equipped with an Escort Passport 9500ix radar/laser detector. Video was taken with a BlackVue dashcam and the speed displayed is 100% accurate. *Of course, this is not me driving- it is a friend of a friend... and I was somehow able to obtain the video clip. I would never drive like this and do not condone it.
