This is a demonstration of my Beltronics Vector 940i. Purchased this many many years ago on eBay for 0, there are so many more advance ones out there. This brand is one of the best brand for this price range, the other ones like Cobra have a lot of fancy features but they do not detect radar as well. In this demonstration, the Vector is detecting photo radar vehicle. You may not have this type of photo radar in your area so you may not aware. The radar is pointing the other direction, it will only detect your speed and take picture after you pass it by about 15-20 feet. When the detector detects it, it will warn you with KA band and even though it's only about 150 feet away or so(measured by google map), you still have sufficient time to slow down. When you are going down the opposite direction, because the radar is pointing at you, the detection will be earlier at around 1400 feet(measured by google map). The POP detection is when an officer who operate the radar gun, even detect longer range. There aren't many laser detection in our city because there are shortage of policeman so I rarely see it but I have seen the Vector 940 detected it and it will give you a 1km (3200 feet) away warning.
